THERE are many things that have inspired me as an artist. A few that spring to mind are probably the most obvious. I have been to a few tropical destinations in my time, not in the typical way ,as in staying at huge expensive resorts, more travelling to smaller more remote islands and staying either with locals or even in some cases sleeping under the stars like at the `les saints` islands of Guadeloupe in the caribean, beaches of Acapulco in Mexico, and the beaches in Thailand near Cambodia. All of these fine locations have burrowed into my soul and live with me each day, filtering into the scenes of my paintings. |

The next major influence is the beautiful brown skinned girls that inhabit these locations ,there long dark black shiny hair, their smooth immaculate glowing skins and mostly there humble feminine personality’s that seduce the soul .Then the decorative floral skirts ,blouses, dresses ,bikinis and lingerie that they wear. Other influences are tropical birds ,parakeets ,flowers and palms. I love romantic batiks ,sarongs and floral natural fabrics. Other more unlikely sources of inspiration are computer generated graphics, I love the sense of perspective in computer generated art, yet in contrast I love the flat simplitude of primitive woodcut prints and silk screen designs. Needless to say that Paul Guagauin remains an old friend in my world of romance ,paradise ,beautiful woman ,and love.
